We try and get out to a local bbq place from time to time here at Lickel Architecture, and we decided to try and review a new spot each month. We all love the ZMan at OK Joe's, but that sandwich will eventually warrant its own post. In the mean time a few of us hit up Smokin' Guns BBQ in North KC at lunch today. What a line there was when we pulled up at 11:45. Turns out the long line was for good reason, thankfully. Of course we would have been there sooner if it weren't for some parking laps by our esteemed chauffeur.
Luckily the line moves quick as this is yet another KC BBQ joint that operates their seating with a "controlled chaos" mentality. You're not sure what to do or where to sit and then it just ends up working out. Food came out quick and without planning on it we had a diverse selection amongst us. The pulled pork was delicious, the sausage was spicy, and the beans were smmmokin'! There sauce was also excellent, with just the right amount of spice and tangy-ness. We all agreed the prices were right in the wheelhouse for the amount of food we were served. One of us even went so far as to try the Cherry Crisp dessert - and it was just the right mix of sour and sweet. This place is going on our list as a great nearby lunch destination (though next time we'll either leave a little earlier or let someone else drive). Just check out their lobby hardware for proof that Somkin' Guns BBQ is worth a trip over the river!
