TREEHUGGER TIP #1

So... you want to be environmentally aware and based on today's society you think you're doing a pretty good job.  You recycle your cans, cardboard, etc...  But do you go much further than that?  Do you.....
  • Turn off the lights when you're not in the room?
  • Turn off the water while you're brushing your teeth?
  • Carpool?
  • Ride your bike to places that are fairly close?

One of the things I did recently to be more energy efficient was I installed an Exhaust Fan Timer!!!

For those of you who don't what an Exhaust Fan Timer is...let me explain.  When someone goes into the toilet room to drop a deuce, they normally turn on the exhaust fan (or at least I hope they do!).  So, when do you (or someone else) turn the fan off?  How long do you let it run?  If the bathroom is on another floor of the house, have you ever left it only to come back hours later to still find it running?

Not only does this use a lot of energy, but the exhaust fan can pull warm humid air from inside of the house during the winter months.  THE SOLUTION.....

AN EXHAUST FAN TIMER!!!
(This is a picture of one type on the market.)

The basic idea is that if just "took the Browns to the Super Bowl", and order is going to stick around longer than you...instead of a switch to turn the fan on and off, you know have timer buttons (10min, 20min, and 30min, etc...usually).  Push the button of the time you want, spray a little smell-good stuff, and leave!!  When the timer is up, the exhaust fan will be shut down automatically!  Save on energy and everyone's noses!!

They are super easy to install, they work with the existing exhaust fan wiring and you can buy them almost anywhere.  If you have a single switch that controls the lights and the exhaust at the same time....they make timers for that too.

Hope this was helpful...
